Start your day at Lake Minnewanka Banff's largest natural lake, surrounded by towering peaks and offering pristine mountain reflections. Later take in spectacular panoramic views of Banff townsite, the Bow Valley, and surrounding mountain ranges from Mount Norquay Lookout.
At Banff, you'll explore Banff's charming downtown area, with its shops, cafés, and historic buildings. Visit Bow Falls & Surprise Corner - two nearby attractions, seeing the powerful Falls cascade and then capture the picture-perfect view of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. You can visit the Banff park Museum and Cave and Basin site to discover the natural and human history of the town in Canada's oldest natural history museum, and see the birthplace of Canada's National Park system.
At Johnston Canyon, you'll feel the thrill of walking suspended pathways built directly into the canyon walls. You'll hear the growing roar of rushing water as you approach the Lower Falls, feel the cool mist on your face, and perhaps challenge yourself to continue further to the impressive Upper Falls. Throughout, you'll learn about the fascinating geological forces that carved this remarkable landscape over millennia.
At Bow Valley Parkway, alternative route from Lake Louise to Banff, with restricted speed, narrower, tree lined road, and a better chance of seeing wildlife such as bears and deer. Here you can stop and visit Morant's Curve, a photographer's paradise to capture the famous railway curve with Mount Rundle's dramatic backdrop. Different Castle Mountain Viewpoints for its distinctive fortress-like and learn its naming history. After Johnston Canyon visit Backswamp Viewpoint to experience serene wetland views with excellent wildlife spotting opportunities including waterfowl, elk, and deer. And then three shallow Vermilion Lakes that make a marvellous foreground to Mount Rundle in the back and great lighting for photos with chance to see muskrat or beavers.
At Moraine Lake (seasonal), you'll climb the famous Rock Pile trail for the "Twenty Dollar View" that once graced Canadian currency. You'll feel the crisp mountain air as you stand awestruck before the impossibly blue waters surrounded by soaring peaks. You'll stroll along the shoreline trail, listening to the gentle lapping of water against ancient rocks, and capture photos from multiple vantage points that will become cherished mementos of your journey.
