Your day begins with a comfortable morning departure from our pickup points in Calgary, Airdrie or in Drumheller. As you start your journey east into the gateway to grasslands that stretch for over 2,000 kms across the Canadian Prairies—you’ll witness the dramatic transition from rolling prairie to the otherworldly badlands landscape. After a photo stop at the 'Welcome to Drumheller' sign, by mid-morning you'll visit the internationally renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum, where you'll spend two hours exploring the world's largest collection of dinosaur fossils. Walk through prehistoric landscapes and stand in awe beneath complete dinosaur skeletons as expert exhibits bring the ancient world to life before your eyes.
Next you will have an hour in Drumheller Town to ascend the World's Largest Dinosaur 'Tyra', climbing through its massive body to emerge from its jaws for spectacular panoramic views of the valley and to enjoy lunch and shopping for souvenirs in the Old Town area. After lunch in Drumheller you'll go on the scenic drive through eleven one-way bridges to the ghost town of Wayne steeped in frontier history and outlaw tales (This is a pass-by, we stop in the Town for only 10 minutes). The adventure then continues with a visit to the eerily beautiful Willow Creek Hoodoos, where you'll walk among towering stone pillars sculpted by millions of years of erosion.
Your final stop at the magnificent Horseshoe Canyon that offers a breathtaking view of the unique geology of the region as you descend into the canyon for up-close views of the striped rock formations. Throughout the day, keep your camera ready for stunning landscapes and the unique flora and fauna of the badlands ecosystem. You'll return with a deeper appreciation for Alberta's past and geological wonders.
